AI motorcycle

There is currently a discussion about the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in design. While AI may offer some unique capabilities, it is important to remember that creativity is a uniquely human trait. As such, it is important to find a BALANCE in how we use AI in our creative pursuits. While AI may be able to assist in the design process, it is not capable of replicating the full range of human creativity and innovation.

Ultimately, the best results will likely come from using AI as a tool to augment our own creativity, rather than replacing it

In late 2022, the capabilities of AI were put to the test by utilizing different platforms and programs with unique rules and parameters, guiding the AI towards specific artistic directions.

In the latest endeavor to prove that machines can be creative, AI was tasked with generating a unique artistic direction. The results were nothing short of miraculous; the AI produced a limited sketch that was later enhanced by human input. Finally, we can answer the age-old question: can robots really think like humans? Alas, it seems that we can only be creative insofar as we have programmed our machines to be creative. This project brings to light the philosophical question of whether we can truly claim authorship over anything we create with the aid of AI, or are we merely intermediaries for the digital creations of our machines? Although AI can seem scary at times, it is ultimately a tool for humans to use. As long as we take the time to understand and take advantage of the knowledge it provides, AI can be an enormous advantage to us. By embracing AI, we can access new levels of efficiency and innovation that were once impossible. It's essential to remember that AI is here to augment our abilities, not replace them. When used appropriately, AI has the potential to enhance our lives and help us solve problems in ways we never thought possible.

my job is safe (for now)

Artificial intelligence is a powerful tool, but it is ultimately guided by human thought. While it is possible to envision a future where machines handle all aspects of design, it is unlikely that human creativity will ever be fully replaced. For now, I believe my job as a designer is safe :)  but I am also committed to exploring the limits of what is possible with emerging technologies. I will continue to push the boundaries of what can be achieved with AI and other tools, while also recognizing the importance of the human element in the creative process.

There are so many exciting applications of AI, but what really gets me excited is when we see AI meet the physical world in innovative ways. Just imagine being able to generate new materials based on a single thought or problem - that's the kind of magic that AI can bring to the table! By combining the analytical power of AI with the physical properties of the materials we use every day, the possibilities are endless. It's an exciting journey, and I'm thrilled to see where it takes us.

To be continued…
